Welcome to my web site. If you are searching my website it is possible that you are having difficulty in your life. It is my goal as a professional for over 30 years to help you in any way that I can or to refer you to those who can help you. Below I have included some information about myself that may help you in deciding if we would be a good fit for therapy. I also commend you for taking this step. It takes a lot of courage to recognize a problem exists and take the steps to do something about it. Sometimes it can be helpful to have someone objective to talk with about life problems. Therapy is a joint effort between us to help you manage problems and to thrive in your one and only life. Yes, this time it is all about you.
I received my degree, M.Ed. at The Pennsylvania State University in 1987.
My undergraduate degree is also from Penn State. I was a University Scholar and received a full scholarship to complete my master’s degree. My thesis was published in a professional journal.
In 1995, after three years of clinical supervision and passing the licensure examination, I was licensed as a psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania.
Because of my extensive experience as a therapist, in a variety of settings, I am familiar with many problem areas that my clients bring to my practice. I am very adept at helping people with depression, grief/loss, anxiety, anger management and stress, alcoholism or drug addiction, family members of alcoholics or addicts, relationship issues, parenting problems, GLBT issues, PTSD, and abuse histories in all forms. These are some of the issues of my current clients.
Since beginning private practice in 2001 I have been a member of the Pennsylvania Psychological Association. Prior to that I was a member of the Correctional Psychology Association.
In order to keep myself and my license current I am required to attend continuing education that is approved through the American Psychological Association. My license was recently updated in November of 2015.
In my practice, I use a certified therapy dog named Gabby. She was certified as a therapy dog by Therapy Dog International in the fall of 2015 and she loves her job. The overwhelming majority of clients enjoy her presence in session. Gabby has begun competing in agility trials as a very early beginner novice to help expend her energy.
I have had a lot of education in helping people and I will use whatever ethical and evidence based approaches that we agree will work best for you. Feel free to offer ideas for additional training based on your experience or insights into your diagnosis.
I am privileged to have many of my clients refer their friends or family members to me. I generally recommend that potential clients contact the mental health portion of their insurance (generally on the back of your insurance card) to ensure I am a participating provider for them. I am credentialed with most insurance companies. I do work with clients with managing any financial difficulties they are concerned about with engaging in therapy.
